Summer Fest- Liberty Lagoon

50th Annual Gonzales Jambalaya Festival

Just a short drive from Baton Rouge lies the Jambalaya (Pronounced JUM-BUH, not JAM-BA if you want to blend in) Capital of the World – Gonzales, Louisiana. Every year, The Jambalaya Festival celebrates the city, the culture of the local dish, and of course crowns a champion chef in The World Champion Jambalaya Cooking Contest. The festival is free and one of the largest in the state. It features many activities including live music on three stages throughout the festival, with Marc Broussard headlining Saturday night, a pageant, car show, 5K and 1 Mile Run, and carnival fun.

 

BASF Kid's Lab: Hold Everything

If you have a curious child wondering how the world works, fuel their thirst for knowledge with science! The Louisiana Art & Science Museum has partnered with BASF for a fun and educational event where kids can explore some interestingly absorbent materials. They’ll experiment with common household products before discovering an amazing chemical with a noteworthy property. Each child also receives a cool backpack with surprises inside! Register before noon on Thursday, 5/25, for one of the two time slots, 1:30 or 3 p.m.

 

Memorial Day Ceremony – USS Kidd

This Memorial weekend, remember the true meaning as The USS Kidd Veterans Memorial honors all those who served at its annual Memorial Day Ceremony. This remembrance is held in the Louisiana Memorial Plaza at the museum at 10:00 a.m., and attendees are encouraged to dress patriotically to show their support. On this special day they are also offering free admission to the USS KIDD Veterans Museum galleries between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. only.
