Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival

May 23-24, 2026

The annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival is a longtime tradition that brings people together over recipes passed down for generations. It’s where the soul food that Baton Rouge is known for takes center stage — shared around tables, under open skies, and set to a backdrop of equally soulful music.

Each spring, families, food lovers, and friends gather to eat well and celebrate the culture behind the food.

Come Hungry

If you’re looking for the best soul food in Baton Rouge, this festival gives you the chance to sample a wide range of flavors in one place, including dishes inspired by beloved Baton Rouge soul food restaurants. Vendors serve classic Southern comfort dishes like fried catfish, slow-cooked greens, and mac and cheese, as well as quintessential Louisiana staples like gumbo, pralines, and crawfish-infused appetizers.

A festival favorite each year is the cooking contest. The main requirement? Every dish must be homemade. Local cooks compete for prizes (and bragging rights) in categories like meats, sides, breads, and desserts, bringing pride, creativity, and tradition to every dish.

Music, Entertainment & Family Fun

The stage stays active with live gospel, jazz, blues, R&B, and soul performances that keep the energy steady throughout the day. Between sets, you can browse local vendors, support community organizations, and enjoy activities designed with families in mind.

The annual festival typically takes place at the Main Library at Goodwood. It is free to attend with ample parking available nearby and plenty of room to gather, eat, and enjoy the music at your own pace. VIP tickets are also available for purchase.
