Michelangelo – A Different View coming to Baton Rouge in March, April 2022
Photo-mechanically reproduced copies of the Sistine Chapel to be displayed from a different view
BATON ROUGE, La., – The long-awaited Michelangelo – A Different View to take place March 18-April 17, 2022, after being rescheduled twice due to COVID-19 and once due to Hurricane Ida.
Michelangelo - A Different View presents a very different picture of Michelangelo’s works: the exhibition shows photo-mechanically reproduced copies almost in original size and in a way that invites visitors to look at them in a contemplative, and at the same time, enthusiastic manner. Where you must look up in the Sistine chapel, in the exhibition the masterpieces are on the ground, so that visitors can walk around the gigantic masterpieces, giving a unique “different view" of Michelangelo’s work.
Every year, four million people visit the Sistine Chapel in Rome to admire the beautiful ceiling frescoes by Michelangelo. In partnership with Visit Baton Rouge and Louisiana Travel, the Raising Cane’s River Center will be bringing these masterpieces to Baton Rouge, March 18-April 17, 2022. Michelangelo - A Different View offers the unique opportunity to look at his timeless work in a different way.
Under the license of the Vatican Museums, the images were reproduced and transferred to special fabric webs. This technique allows a true-to-life reproduction and gives a glimpse of the works, which, apart from Michelangelo, has so far been given to only a few people.
The sculptor and painter Michelangelo spent four years of his life on scaffolding under the vaulted ceiling of the Sistine Chapel painting probably the most famous frescoes in the world with his interpretation of the history of creation. Prior to this, a simple starry sky had adorned the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
The so-called Quattrocento frescoes have adorned the walls of the Sistine Chapel since the 15th century. As an addition to – and to complete – the exhibition “Michelangelo – A Different View,” these impressive frescoes await visitors in the entrance. The scenes from the life of Jesus and that of Moses painted by Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Rosselli provide additional historical background and allow for a deeper insight into this epoch. Michelangelo encountered these works before starting work on the vaulted ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Michelangelo – A Different View allows visitors to view the paintings from only two meters with no time constraints. Tickets are $17.50 (adult), $12.50 (groups of 10 or more), and $7.50 (kids 12 and under). Tickets for the new dates will be on sale Friday at the Raising Cane’s River Center Box Office and Ticketmaster.com.
