Visit Baton Rouge wins Sports ETA’s 2019 “Sport Tourism Organization of the Year, Population over 500,000” Award
Cincinnati (October 28, 2020) - Visit Baton Rouge was honored with the Sports ETA’s 2019 “Sport Tourism Organization of the Year, Population over 500,000” Award.
This award is given to a Destination member who has had the most exceptional impact on their local community through sports events and visitor spending in the 2019 calendar year. This organization should also show a commitment to Sports ETA and its mission.
Visit Baton Rouge fits that description, hosting a total of 48 sporting events in 2019 including 33 regional, 10 national and five international. Those events generated more than $26 million in economic impact to the Baton Rouge region.
“We work with our local host organizations to bring events to the city. Oftentimes, when an event comes here once, they want to return multiple times,” said Zach Ebarb, National Sports and Convention Sales Manager with Visit Baton Rouge. “Our team here at Visit Baton Rouge was on board to assist in various ways, everything from setting up hotel room blocks to establishing websites with event and visitor information to assisting with local media even social media influencers to get the word out locally.”
The 28th annual Sports ETA Symposium was cancelled earlier this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The 2019 award winners will also be recognized at next year’s Symposium from April 26-29 in Birmingham, Alabama.
