Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in Baton Rouge
Fire up the grill and break out the BBQ! Some people consider Memorial Day as the official start of summer, but the day is very important to not take for granted; it's a day to honor and celebrate the military members who have fought for our country.
Memorial Day can be commemorated in many ways in Baton Rouge. Here are a few events that you can check out leading up to the big holiday.
Live After Five
Friday, May 22
Kick off the holiday weekend with Live After Five, featuring sounds from the Rouge Krew. Close out the spring season at Rhorer Plaza in downtown Baton Rouge, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 22. Trust us, you don't want to miss this epic finale!

Blue Star Mothers Flag Ceremony
Saturday, May 23
Honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice at this year’s flag ceremony at the Louisiana State Capitol. “Hero Hump” is a 6-mile march where current and former military members carry flags from the Memorial Tower on Louisiana State University's campus to the State Capitol grounds. The members will carry over 11,000 flags to pay homage to Louisiana’s fallen heroes from past wars. Volunteers will plant the flags and then read of names of military members from 9/11 to present day. The ceremony will start around 8:30 a.m. in front of the Huey P. Long Statue.

Movies & Music on the Lawn
Saturday, May 23
Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with the final installment of Movies & Music on the Lawn at Baton Rouge Gallery on Saturday. Enjoy a free outdoor screening and a musical performance to the score of the movie. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy bottomless popcorn under the stars!
Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival
Sunday, May 24
Bring your appetite for something special at the 9th Annual Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival! This celebration puts Southern cooking front and center with a judged soul food cookoff featuring everything from savory meats and hearty sides to sweet desserts. While you sample your way around, enjoy live entertainment and the Vendor Village where you can browse local goods and handmade finds.
Baton Rouge Concert Band Memorial Day Concert
Monday, May 25, 7-9 p.m.
Honor and remember those who gave their lives in service at the annual Memorial Day Concert by the Baton Rouge Concert Band. This free community event features a heartfelt lineup of patriotic favorites, powerful marches, and moving musical tributes that reflect the meaning of Memorial Day. Gather with family, friends, and fellow community members for an evening of remembrance, reflection, and music in Baton Rouge.
