Overview
The LSU Campus Mounds (16EBR6) are among the oldest human-made edifices in North America. Previous research found these Mounds were built 5,500 to 6,000 years ago; recent studies estimate 11,000 years old. The two large, grassy mounds are about 20 feet tall and are among the more than 800 hill-like mounds in Louisiana. While many regional mounds have been destroyed, the LSU Campus Mounds have been preserved and are listed on the National Register for Historic Places.
