On gamedays, Tiger Stadium becomes the fifth largest city in the state of Louisiana as over 100,000 fans pack the cathedral of college football to watch LSU play.

For opponents, however, it's another story, as Tiger Stadium is an intimidating venue that has been called one of the most dreaded road playing sites in all of college football.

Seating over 100,000 fans and nicknamed "Death Valley," poll after poll has proclaimed Tiger Stadium as one of the greatest sites anywhere for a football game — college or professional.

Things to Know

  • Cashless venue: All transactions are card-based; cash-to-card machines available
  • Bag Policy: Only clear tote bags ≤12″×6″×12″; express lanes available for guests with no bags
  • Game-day support: Includes cooling tents, re-fill stations, security services, ATM access, and texting support lines
  • Parking
    • Metered parking along West Stadium Drive (Lot 401), paid via card or app
    • Pay-to-park areas: Commuter or X-zone lots—$3/hour weekdays, $12/day max for extended stays
    • Game-day lots: Color-coded zones and nearby lots (e.g., Parker Coliseum, Welcome Center); lots west of Highland Rd cost $20–$40
    • Free ADA parking: Lot 409 on Gourrier Lane
    • Bus & group parking: Charter buses park free in Lot 407 on Skip Bertman Drive

  • Major roads to campus include I-10, I-12, Nicholson Drive;
    • NOTE: Some streets close on game days

Tours & Visitor Experience

  • Guided Tours: Offered select dates, starting at the Bill Lawton Room near North‑West corner of stadium. Adult tickets are $10; youth (under 13) $5. Tours include locker rooms, field access, and stadium history, lasting about 45 minutes
  • Opened November 25, 1924, with a modest 12,000-seat capacity
  • Record Attendance: Crowd capacity reached 102,321 on sixteen occasions, most recently on November 11, 2023, versus the University of Florida
  • The “Earthquake Game” – October 8, 1988
    • On October 8, 1988, during a packed game against Auburn, LSU’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Eddie Fuller triggered such a powerful crowd reaction that it registered on a seismograph approximately 1,000 feet away in the Howe‑Russell Geoscience Complex.
    • Known as the “Earthquake Game,” it marked the first recorded seismic activity from a college football game, capturing attention both on campus and in broader media
  • Garth Brooks Concert – April 2022
    • During Garth Brooks’s April 30, 2022, Tiger Stadium performance of “Callin’ Baton Rouge,” the crowd of over 102,000 fans sang so loudly that a seismograph in LSU’s Nicholson Building detected a small earthquake
