Mike the Tiger is the nation’s only live tiger to live on a college campus in the United States. His habitat is located on LSU’s campus on North Stadium Drive near the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC) and Tiger Stadium. Viewing is free and typically available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., though hours can vary, especially during maintenance.

Habitat Features

  • Includes natural soil, lush plantings, a large Live Oak tree, waterfall, and a stream
  • Additional amenities: pond where Mike may swim, toys for enrichment, comfort rock, rockwork tree, improved water features, and resurfaced pool enhanced in 2017
  • Recognized as one of the largest and most advanced tiger habitats in the U.S.

History & Mike VII Facts

  • Mike VII (the current Mike) is the seventh live tiger mascot in LSU history and was born September 13, 2016.
  • Mike VII is a rescue tiger that is a blend of Siberian and Bengal characteristics, donated by Wild at Heart Wildlife Center in Okeechobee, Florida

Mike’s Care Team

  • Mike is cared for by the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine
  • Health and welfare are overseen by Dr. David Baker, his personal veterinarian
  • Mike’s habitat is maintained weekly with yard work done on Thursday mornings

Parking

  • Metered parking available along North Stadium Drive and adjacent to Tiger Stadium (includes handicapped spaces)
  • Bus Groups: Buses can drop off at the Sports Shop near the habitat. Bus parking is available upon request on-campus or at a gravel lot across from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Skip Bertman Drive and River Road.
  • Game-day parking: For fans attending events, nearby lots include:
    • Lot 310 (40 Stadium Dr): general parking
    • South Stadium Lot, Touchdown Village West, Welcome Center Lot, Parker Coliseum Lot, etc.: around $3 for 2 hours
    • ADA parking: free or reserved — check LSU’s gameday maps

Guidelines & Restrictions

  • No pets or stuffed animals allowed at the habitat
  • Maintenance alerts posted on Mike’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X) when he is indoors
