Baton Rouge Chosen to Host GeoWoodstock 2027, the World's Largest Scavenger Hunt
Event expected to bring 3,500 attendees to the Capital City for Memorial Day weekend
BATON ROUGE, La., September 9, 2026 – Visit Baton Rouge announced today that Baton Rouge has been selected to host GeoWoodstock 2027, the world's largest annual geocaching event, bringing in an estimated economic impact of $1.6M to Baton Rouge over Memorial Day Weekend.
GeoWoodstock 2027 is expected to draw approximately 3,500 attendees, with 3,000 of those expected to be out-of-town visitors, to the event at the Raising Cane’s River Center. This is an exciting opportunity for our hotels, restaurants and attractions to see an uptick in guests during a weekend that is traditionally slower for our city.
"Hosting GeoWoodstock is a fantastic opportunity to welcome thousands of new visitors to Baton Rouge," said Jill Kidder, President and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge. "The event brings meaningful economic impact during an important weekend for our hospitality partners, but just as importantly, it gives attendees the chance to experience the people, places and flavors that define Baton Rouge. Our hope is they'll leave with every reason to return."
In addition to the main event at the Raising Cane's River Center Arena, attendees are expected to extend their stays to explore geocaches throughout the Baton Rouge region while visiting local restaurants, museums, riverfront attractions and nearby communities.
The announcement marks the first time GeoWoodstock will be held in Baton Rouge, offering attendees the chance to experience the Capital City's distinctive blend of Southern hospitality, rich culture and award-winning culinary scene while participating in one of geocaching's most anticipated annual events.
"Baton Rouge has already generated incredible excitement within the geocaching community," said DeAnne Vickery, GeoWoodstock Selection Committee member. "Interest in GeoWoodstock 2027 has exceeded our expectations, with more cachers volunteering to serve as ambassadors than ever before. We're thrilled to bring the event to Louisiana for the first time and can't wait for attendees to experience everything Baton Rouge has to offer."
Often described as the world's largest scavenger hunt, geocaching is a global outdoor adventure in which participants use GPS-enabled devices to locate hidden containers, known as geocaches, in destinations around the world. GeoWoodstock serves as the premier annual gathering for the international geocaching community, attracting enthusiasts who travel from across the United States and abroad to celebrate the hobby while exploring the host destination.
