Art as an act of SPIRIT

Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 1–4 PM

Free admission to the museum all day on Art Break days

**This is a wellness-focused program for teens and adults.

Create a painting inspired by the work of Purvis Young, a self-taught artist who painted with spiritual urgency from whatever materials he could find.

Drop-in and create art during these programs. No experience necessary. This is a wellness-focused program for teens and adults. A docent will be stationed in the Folk Art Gallery so you can learn more about the works and artists on view.

Enjoy live music from The Lady DeeJay! Spinning exclusively on vinyl, Lady Deejay (Leah Smith) creates one-of-a-kind sets by blending classics from the '50s, '60s, and '70s—many from her father's record collection—with modern favorites. Her eclectic mix and vintage turntables create the perfect soundtrack for an afternoon of creativity inspired by artist Purvis Young. The theme for this Art Break at the Museum is Art as an Act of Spirit.
