Overview
The National Hansen's Disease Museum is located on the grounds of what was the only national leprosarium. Promotes the understanding, identification and treatment of Hansen's Disease (leprosy). The museum tells the story of the patients, staff and the discovery of the cure for the disease. The site of the former leprosarium is now the Gillis Long Center, a Louisiana National Guard Base. Drivers will need to show a valid license to get through the gate. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM. A driving tour of the facility is available 7 days a week.
