Weather
Baton Rouge's weather ranges from the 40s through the 70s from January to March, the 60s through 80s for April through June, 70s from 90s for the summer through September, and dips to the 50s through the 70s for October through December.
Two Capitals
Baton Rouge is Louisiana's capital city, but it's also unique for having two state capitol buildings – the Old State Capitol, which looks like a castle, and the tallest capitol building in the U.S., the New State Capitol, standing 450 feet tall.
Home of LSU and Southern University
Baton Rouge is home to Louisiana State University (LSU) and Southern University, the only city in the U.S. to host both a major research university and a historically Black university (HBCU).
Baton Rouge is French for "red stick"
Over 300 years ago, in 1699, French explorer Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur d'Iberville named Baton Rouge for the "red stick" along a Mississippi River bluff. It is from this "red stick" that Iberville christened our city "le Baton Rouge."

Known as “Death Valley,” LSU’s Tiger Stadium becomes a city of its own on Saturday nights, seating a total of 102,321 screaming fans!
Film Industry
Baton Rouge has become a filming hotspot, attracting productions for major films and TV shows. Movies like Pitch Perfect, Django Unchained, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn were all filmed in or around the city, taking advantage of its varied scenery and state tax incentives for the film industry.
Birthplace of Raising Cane's
The famous chicken finger chain, Raising Cane's, started right here in Baton Rouge. The first location opened near LSU in 1996, and it's now a beloved brand nationwide. You can still visit the Original Raising Cane's today!
