HOW IT STARTED The Kolache Kitchen is locally owned. The original Kolache Kitchen opened in January 2013 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana just steps away from Louisiana State University. Will Edwards, Houston native, saw the absence of kolaches in the Baton Rouge area. With overwhelming support from his family and friends, Edwards opened his first location less than two years after he graduated from LSU.
Thanks to the Baton Rouge community, the first location has thrived ever since the day it opened. Due to high demand and continuing support, Edwards opened his second location on Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge in April 2015 and his third location on Airline Higway openned on June 28, 2021.
WHAT IS A KOLACHE? A kolache is a hot fresh baked pastry, prized for its soft, pillowy dough and its versatility. Kolache fillings range from sweet to savory. Originating in Central Europe, kolaches became popular in certain parts of America, especially Central and South Texas. In today's fast-paced world, kolaches are the ideal grab-and-go choice for a breakfast that is baked, not fried.
BREAKFAST Customers are welcomed to enjoy an array of items prepared from scratch every day. Everything in our kitchen is handmade--from dough to scrambled eggs to pico de gallo! We serve a variety of sweet and savory kolaches, breakfast tacos, empanadas, cinnamon rolls and other delicious freshly baked goods. We even serve a boudin kolache, a Southern twist on a traditional pastry. Our breakfast menu is served from open til close every day.
LUNCH Both locations offer a lunch menu in addition to the breakfast menu. Lunch is served at 10:30 am until close. The lunch menu includes delicious sandwiches and fresh tacos. All of our brisket and pork is marinated and cooked in house which gives our lunch an even fresher touch!
