The ARC Baton Rouge employs over 300 to serve and support individuals in a seven parish area.
Services range from therapies for children birth to 3 years of age to job placements in the community for adults. We also provide opportunities for individuals to live independently in their own home; we provide care in emergency situations, and promote and encourage inclusive recreational opportunities.
Strong local and national presence
The Arc Baton Rouge is one of 19 affiliated Louisiana chapters and nearly 700 nationwide. Our service area includes 7 parishes, view map here. Our network provides a wide range of human services and other supports to people with I/DD and their family members, including but not limited to:
Individual & public policy advocacy
Residential and housing supports
Vocational training and employment solutions
Recreational activities to promote health & wellness
Deeply rooted in the community
The Arc was founded in 1950 from a grassroots movement of families working vigilantly to create services for children and adults who were being denied day care, educational opportunities and work programs. The small group of concerned and passionate parents became the catalyst for changing the public perception of children with disabilities.
In 2015 we began the Arts Entrepreneurship Program for adults with disabilities who showed an interest in self-expression through visual arts activities. We started with simple but colorful paintings in watercolor, then block-printed on them with interesting shapes and designs. Results were so stunning that we then created own line of unique note cards, tea towels, t-shirts, silk scarves and a variety of Louisiana-theme ornaments!...Each one is hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind.
"These unique items, and many more, are offered for sale by adults with amazing artistic abilities and a variety of disabilities."
How can you purchase these one-of-a-kind works or art? On the first (1st) Saturday of every month ArcArts students participate in the Arts Market presented by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge alongside the Farmer's Market in downtown Baton Rouge and on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the ARC of Baton Rouge main site on Jefferson Highway.
We are working on our MArcket website where you will be able to order, shop and pay for items online. For now contact us atArcArts@arcbatonrouge.org
The Arc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-exempt corporate and derives its support from its membership and donations from corporations, other organizations and individuals. Special projects are often supported by government or foundation grants.
