This plantation is a lasting tribute to the sugar industry which helped to nurture Terrebonne Parish from its infancy to its present population of over 100,000 residents. Four generations of the Minor Family, along with hundreds of mill workers, fieldworkers, and their families, lived and labored here. The Southdown Plantation and Museum's Gift Shop has hundreds of unique items, including local folklore children's books, blankets, fleur de lis novelties, jewelry, bags, Cajun music, and an extensive collection of books. Please allow 1 hour for guided tour and 1.5 hours for total visit. Self-guided written tours may be offered. Special group rates are also available.
