Established in 1998 to preserve Angola Prison's prolific past and to educate the general public about the role it has played in Louisiana's history. Visitors can see the original electric chair, authentic inmate contraband, and officer's weapons. The Louisiana State Penitentiary Museum also contains old maps of the penitentiary, records of the first inmates, inmate and officer uniforms, and many other fascinating and unique artifacts. No admission is charged to visit the museum but donations are accepted to help defray the cost of operation.
