This year marks the 72nd anniversary of the end of WWII and the USS KIDD Veterans Museum will honor the legacy of America's "Greatest Generation" during their annual "Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" event being held from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Saturday August 19th (Venue TBA. Please call Museum or check our website for details).
In 2010, Congress unanimously voted in favor of a national "Spirit of '45 Day" to preserve and honor the legacy of the men and women of the World War II generation so that their example of national unity, shared sacrifice and service to community will continue to inspire future generations of Americans. The KIDD's "Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" event is a fitting remembrance to WWII service members as we approach the 72nd anniversary of the end of World War II on August 14, 1945.
"Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" attendees will enjoy a one-of-a-kind USO style performance by the nationally known On the Air - A Tribute to Bob Hope and Radio Stars of the 1940s. This troupe has performed at the Estrella War Bird Museum (CA.), March Field Air Museum (CA.), USS YORKTOWN (S.C.), and USS ALABAMA (AL), to name a few. There will be dance music of the period, heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer, and a cash bar for cocktails available. All guests are encouraged to wear 1940's outfits and bring their dancing shoes.
There will also be silent auctions, live auctions, raffles, and balloon pops as a fundraiser. These funds will help support daily Museum operations, the building maintenance fund, community programs, educational outreach initiatives, alternative therapy programs for veterans, and the preservation of the world-renowned Fletcher-class destroyer, the USS KIDD (DD-661)
Please join us for this fun-filled evening and help the USS KIDD Veterans Museum continue to improve and expand its mission to recognize and interpret the service and sacrifice of Louisiana's military veterans.
