Great Aunt is a country folk duo from Melbourne, Australia, rambling a musical line between the plaintive and the joyous. Their music is raw and austere, simple and bold; full of stomping feet and clapping hands, chants and harmonies, whispered words and soulful lament. Set somewhere between a gospel church in Louisiana and a dimly-lit speakeasy in Melbourne, listeners will hear tales of joy and grief, whiskey and wine, gratitude and purpose-seeking.
Great Aunt have spent the last 18 months touring the east coast of Australia, including festival performances at Groundwater Country Music Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Nimbin Roots and Foggy Mountain Bluegrass Festival, Newport Folk Festival as well as repeat performances and showcases in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, and regional shows throughout Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
Their debut single, Tell Me When Its Over received high-rotation airplay on various community radio stations Australia-wide and was nominated in 3 Best Songs of 2017 (Last Night in Town, Miss Chatelaine and Almost Famous Radio). A video clip for Tell Me When Its Over was premiered on The Bluegrass Situation (USA), and featured on Foxtels Country Music Channel (Sunday Night Alt) and DittyTV (USA).
