Festival of Lights December 6th, 4-9 p.m.: Baton Rouge’s oldest holiday tradition is transforming the winter sky into a wonderland. The Mayor will light North Boulevard with half a million sparkling lights. Experience the magic beneath the 35-foot Christmas tree in North Boulevard Town Square. Enjoy free ice skating and play in six tons of real snow at the Snow Village. 

1. SNOW SLEDDING & ICE SKATING

Yes, this is Baton Rouge... but we have real snow for sledding and ice skating! Bring the family to slide on 10 tons of real snow down the Repentance Park hill! Repentance Park is located between the Old State Capitol and River Center. We also have our very own Rockefeller Center style skating rink located on the first floor of the River Center Plaza. Just like in NYC , festival goers can stand around the balcony and look down at the children skating on the plaza!

  • Sledding begins at 5PM - Ages 5-15 Only
  • Skating begins at 4PM - Ages 5-10 Only

2. SHOP THE ARTIST VILLAGE

Produced by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, this year's Artists Village at the Festival of Lights will be located in the City Hall Plaza Lawn. Over 10 local artists will be selling handmade crafts to complete your Christmas shopping list. Along with the artists the festival will include a bake sale, hot chocolate for sale, and multiple food vendors.

3. TREE LIGHTING & FIREWORKS

Mayor Broome will countdown the lighting of the City's Christmas Tree along with half a million sparkling lights on North Boulevard. Experience the magic beneath the 25-foot Christmas tree on North Boulevard and marvel over the elaborate fireworks show on the Mississippi River! Get into position! The countdown will begin around 6:20pm! The preferred area for viewing the fireworks will be in North Boulevard at Town Square facing the Christmas Tree and Mississippi River.

4. SANTA IS COMING!

Santa will assist Mayor Broome to countdown the lighting of Baton Rouge's Christmas Tree! Afterwards you are invited to the Louisiana Old State Capitol for a special photo-op and other holiday festivities. Louisiana’s Old State Capitol will host their annual “Santa in The Senate” on Friday, Dec. 6 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.

5. MUSICAL PERFORMANCES

On the Community Stage, catch local area choirs, dance studios and bands perform throughout the evenings. Then, the Mayor's stage at Galvez Plaza will see Soul Jukeboxx perform from 4:15 pm - 6p.m, then "Swing Into Christmas" with Ned Fasullo and the Fabulous Big Band Orchestra from 6:25 p.m.- 9p.m.) Can't get enough performing arts? Witness Bayou Cirque's globe walking, juggling elf, stilt walking, frost fairy and more around the festival.

6. REINDEER RUN & JINGLE BELL JOG

Been naughty? Been nice? No comment? No worries! Everyone is welcome at Guaranty Media’s Reindeer Run and Jingle Bell Jog benefiting Forum 35 on Friday, December 6th during Downtown Baton Rouge’s Festival of Lights! Jingle Bell Jog, our 1 mile fun run, takes place at 7pm and the Reindeer Run 5K is at approximately 7:20pm!

7. MORE DOWNTOWN LAGNIAPPE

LOUISIANA ART & SCIENCE MUSEUM ACTIVITIES

Enjoy hands-on ornament-making, shopping in the Museum Store, and special planetarium showings of "Let it Snow" at 5 PM & 7 PM during Downtown Baton Rouge’s annual Festival of Lights event!
