Visit Baton Rouge honored with two statewide PR awards
Achievements in social media management and photography celebrated
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL) recognized Visit Baton Rouge’s marketing team with two prestigious statewide PR awards for their outstanding work in social media management and photography.
Visit Baton Rouge received the Certificate of Merit in the social media management category. When Visit Baton Rouge received the official confirmation that the Savannah Bananas would make their collegiate stadium debut at LSU’s Alex Box Stadium in March 2024, the team creatively shared the news on social media. Two team members dressed in banana costumes and filmed around the capital city to highlight the area beyond baseball. The video garnered 21,000 views and 200 shares on Instagram, generating 140,000 ticket requests for the 30,000 available tickets.
Additionally, Tamaria Williams, Communications Manager, received the Award of Excellence for her photograph captured at Baton Rouge’s Holi Festival in March 2023. Holi Fest, known for its vibrant colors, dancing, and color-powder throws, is a Hindu tradition celebrated traditionally in India and Nepal. Baton Rouge hosts its own festival every spring in Repentance Park. Williams's photo captured the festival's energy and joy, showcasing its inclusivity and cultural richness.

The awards were presented at the annual state conference held at Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) on June 13. The Torche’ Awards celebrate excellence in public relations, with 26 entries submitted from across the state.
The award submissions were evaluated by accredited public relations (APR) professionals from the Central Florida chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the Maryland chapter.
