USS KIDD
Docked downtown on the Mighty Mississippi is the USS KIDD, a Fletcher-class destroyer that sailed in the Pacific during World War II. Sure to please any history buff, student or patriot, the KIDD is a place to recognize America's veterans and learn more about our military past. Explore the KIDD's deck, weapons, and barracks, and then walk up the river to the LASM for your next destination.

LASM and Planetarium
The Louisiana Art and Science Museum offers numerous exhibits for your viewing, including The River Inside: Photographs by John Guider, and Native American Baskets (on display until June 22). You can also view the museum's Ancient Egypt gallery, which is home to a 2,300-year-old mummy! After exploring the museum, head to the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium and ExxonMobil Space Theater. LSU Museum of Art
LSU MOA, located in the Shaw Center for the Arts, is right across the street from the LASM. Current exhibitions include Margaret Stones' Flora of Louisiana: The Baton Rouge Collection, Rooted Communities: The Art of Nari Ward, and The Visual Blues. This is sure to be a feast for your eyes!

Louisiana State Capitol
The Louisiana State Capitol towers over Baton Rouge and is the tallest State Capitol in the U.S. Wander around the Capitol's lush and expansive gardens, and then head into the building to ride two elevators all the way to the viewing deck to get a spectacular view of Baton Rouge and the Mississippi River.
Capitol Park Museum
After visiting the Louisiana State Capitol, walk to the Capitol Park Museum to learn what Louisiana is all about. Dive into our state's distinct cultures, and view exhibits on Mardi Gras, fishing, music, and politics. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

BREC Baton Rouge Zoo
Come visit your favorite animals at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo. At our zoo, you can find tigers, monkeys, alligators and more. Be sure to swing in L'Aquarium de Louisiane to see native and exotic fish, reptiles and amphibians.

Liberty Lagoon
Located next to Independence Park's softball fields, this BREC water park has it all: a splash pad, playground, lazy river, slides, and pools. Liberty Lagoon is a must-see for anyone wishing to cool down and have fun this summer in Baton Rouge.

Magnolia Mound
Magnolia Mound Plantation was built in 1791 and is home to some of Louisiana's richest history. The plantation's museum includes dozens of French and English furniture and decorations from the early 19th century. You can also tour an open-hearth kitchen, overseer's house, crop garden, quarter house, pigeonnier and carriage house.

Rural Life Museum
LSU's Rural Life Museum contains three sections: the Exhibit Barn, which features rural artifacts from the early 20th century; the Plantation Quarters, which includes nine early 19th century buildings to replicate daily plantation activities; and the Louisiana Folk Architecture complex, which includes six Louisiana-style buildings to represent the various and distinct cultures found in our state.

Red Stick Farmers' Market
Join the locals at the Red Stick Farmers' Market every Saturday morning at downtown Baton Rouge at Fifth and Main Streets. Shop around for fresh, local food and produce and get to know what we're like in the Red Stick.

Mike the Tiger VI
LSU is the home of the Tigers, but did you know that the University is also home to the only live tiger mascot in the nation? Come to campus and visit Mike, a Bengal-Siberian mix tiger, who loves to swim, pace and nap. Mike is usually in his habitat every day but sometimes stays inside his night house for inclement weather or yard work. After visiting Mike, explore LSU's beautiful campus, with its hundreds of famous live oaks and magnolias.
