LSU Rural Life Museum

TheLSU Rural Life Museum provides excellent articles, exhibits and information to those interested in the lifestyles and life-ways of the rural people of Louisiana. Containing the largest collection of material culture of 19th century Louisiana, the Museum also houses artifacts dealing with everyday rural life up to the early 20th century. Information about these artifacts will be continuously added to the website. The Museum Library also gives visitors and students access to a wonderful collection of books for research.
School Sponsored Field Trips
The plantation offers programs for students of any age! Third grade classes and above can request a docent led tour. Just contact the Rural Life Museum Admissions Services Desk at (225) 765-2437 at least two weeks prior to your planned visit. For younger students, tours are self-guided with teachers or adults along to chaperone.
Students will get just the right mix of learning and fun...all in our scenic and safe experience areas.

Self-Guided or Docent-Led Tours
"Knowing the Past Betters the Future" at one of the top outdoor museums in the world. Choose your own adventure at the Rural Life Museum! With the 19th century Plantation area, the Folk Architecture section, The Exhibit Barn, 32 historic buildings and thousands of artifacts representing the rural way of life, there's so much to see!
Teachers can utilize the Rural Life Museum to enhance social studies, cultural arts, math and science classes. Museum docents and staff are currently working to design a specialized tour to assist 4th grade classes with the L.E.A.P. testing. More information will be available in the future on Standards to assist students and teachers.

Tour Times and Admission
Both the Museum and 25 acres of Windrush Gardens, site of the Burden home, are open daily from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm year round.
Museum admission Includes The Barn and 32 historic buildings within the Museum Complex as well as historic Windrush Gardens:
Adults (ages 12 - 61 years) $7.00 per person
Children (ages 5 - 11 years) $5.00 per person
Children under 5 years No charge
Senior citizens (age 62 and over) $6.00 per person
LSU Faculty, Staff & students (with LSU I.D.) $6.00 per person
Organized school groups (with reservations) $5.00 per person
