Old Governor?s Mansion - State Dining Room
The State Dining Room features the French Zuber & Co. panoramic wallpaper "Views of North America." First printed in 1834, the wallpaper design shows city scenes of Boston and New York, West Point, natural wonders such as Niagara Falls, Virginia's Natural Bridge, and scenes of American life and innovation. The dining table was used during the administration of Governor James A. Noe. The chest-of-drawers belonged to Governor Richard Leche.

Alligator Bayou
Cruise into the 13,000-acre Spanish Lake Basin, a secluded wilderness of winding bayous, open lakes and ancient cypress swamps with giant old-growth trees. Located at Alligator Bayou just below the bluffs of Baton Rouge, this is a wildlife refuge of magnificent beauty and value. Cypress Flats, an open lake, teems with gators, egrets, blue and green herons, ibises, cormorants, and migratory birds winging the 30-hour flight across the Gulf of Mexico and stopping to fish and rest in this watery paradise.

Governor Huey P. Long's Bedroom - Old Governor?s Mansion
Governor Long was a colorful state and national figure during the late 1920s and early 1930s. He was elected Governor in 1928 and served until 1932 when he resigned to serve as a United States Senator. Long was responsible for the construction of the mansion and the new state capitol. Among his other public works were a modern highway system and bridges crossing the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Governor Long's children - Rose Long McFarland, Palmer Long, and U. S. Senator Russell Long - restored the room in his honor, furnishing it with many of his personal effects. The small piano, the large steamer trunk, the "boater" hat, and the silk robe were all used by the Governor. Over the bed is a reproduction of Sir Joshua Reynolds' "The Age of Innocence," Huey Long's favorite picture, according to son, Russell. Governor and Mrs. Long used the bedroom suite at their New Orleans residence when he served as U. S. Senator
