Experience a star-studded concert in LSU’s Tiger Stadium at Bayou Country Superfest on Memorial Day weekend. Previous performers include Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, Brooks and Dunn, Keith Urban, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Sugarland, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington and the Zac Brown Band. Head over to the Baton Rouge Blues Festival, which boasts headliners such as Delbert McClinton, Jimmie Vaughan, great local entertainment and spicy Louisiana jambalaya. Visitors and locals alike will enjoy Fest For All in May. This downtown festival celebrates art and music and features live music, local art, dance performances, shopping, a children’s village and tasty Louisiana cuisine.
Baton Rouge is also home to the internationally famous Southern University Human Jukebox! This group is redefining the style of college bands by performing rhythm and blues, classics, show-stopping dance moves and impeccable drill steps. This band is dedicated to providing fresh and unique entertainment with a creative flare.
If you appreciate theatrical entertainment, you will love our Broadway in Baton Rouge musical series at the River Center downtown. Past performances include Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast and Hairspray. While you’re downtown, check out the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts for unique performance events. This venue is modeled after classical European opera houses and has been the site of world-class performances. Also, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the Baton Rouge Ballet and the Baton Rouge Little Theater perform year-round at various venues and events throughout the city.
Experience live music with the locals at restaurants and other venues! Third Street downtown offers great music and nightlife. Visitors will enjoy music downtown at the Roux House, Hollywood Casino and Boudreaux and Thibodeaux’s. While you’re downtown, grab dinner at Schlitz and Giggles for delicious pizza, or walk to Poor Boy Lloyd’s for one of the best po-boys in town. For dinner and entertainment, try Superior Grill, Chelsea’s Café, Pastime, Ringside at Sullivan’s and Boutin’s. Visit Phil Brady’s on Government Street for a night of electric Blues music and dancing! Travel a few minutes north of Baton Rouge to experience a little soul food and a lot of Blues music at Teddy’s Juke Joint.
Baton Rouge also offers several free concert series in the spring and fall such as Sunday in the Park, Rock ‘n’ Rowe and Live After Five. Come downtown for Live After Five on Friday evenings for a variety of music genres, dancing, drinks and food. Many use the outdoor concert to kick-off an evening reveling in other dining and entertainment options on and around Third Street. Try Stroube’s Chophouse, Tsunami Sushi Restaurant or Capital City Grill for great food. After dinner, dance the night away at the Roux House or Boudreaux and Thibodeaux’s. Perkins Rowe, one of Baton Rouge’s great shopping and entertainment venues, hosts live musical entertainment on Thursday evenings at Rock ‘n’ Rowe. While you’re there, enjoy shopping, see a movie and grab a bite to eat or a few drinks while listening to live music! Also, visitors and locals alike will have a great time at Sunday in the Park, a concert series featuring local talent and cuisine on Sunday afternoons. The spring Sunday in the Park series begins in April and spans six weeks, and the fall series begins in October and runs through November.
While you’re in town, visit BREC’s City Park for Movies and Music on the Lawn, where film buffs and families alike are invited to come out on the last Saturday of the month, May through October, to snack under the stars and enjoy an exciting silent-era film paired with live contemporary music supplied by some of our area’s most talented musicians.
