Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And not to worry, in Baton Rouge you will not want to miss it! While in downtown Baton Rouge, try the famous biscuits at Christina’s, a local breakfast favorite, or for a finer pallet, visit Strand’s Café. From homemade coffee favorites to creative pastries and chocolate treats, Strand’s Café aims to please. Staying in Baton Rouge through Sunday? Any Baton Rouge local will testify Sunday Brunch at Mason’s Grill is like no other. If you’re near LSU, sip sweet mimosas while enjoying crawfish eggs Benedict and more at the Chimes or try Louie’s Cafe, a 24 hour diner serving breakfast and dinner all day.


After touring some of the great downtown Baton Rouge attractions, you will have surely worked up an appetite for lunch! Try the seafood spinach dip appetizer at Capital City Grill or experience down home soul food cooking at Harrington’s Café just up the street. If your taste buds are indecisive, the Main Street Market is the perfect fix. Main Street Market features tasty salads and wraps, soul food, Greek, Cajun, Chinese and other deli options. After lunch, tour Magnolia Mound Plantation, a French-Creole plantation, to view an open hearth cooking demonstration using the vegetables grown in the Plantation gardens.


If you get a craving for Creole food, try Juban’s or Mansur’s on the Boulevard for dinner! They are sure to please your taste buds with creative expressions of fine Creole cuisine or step back in time and embrace the distinct history, culture and cuisine of Louisiana at Nottoway Plantation just 20 minutes from downtown Baton Rouge. With recent renovations complete, Nottoway takes each visitor back to a time of grandeur with pomp and circumstance. Dine in Nottoway’s Mansion Restaurant and be sure not to indulge in too much of their sweet buttermilk cornbread before you’ve tried dinner! For a formal dining experience, try Latil’s Landing Restaurant at Houmas House Plantation. Along with a museum quality collection of art and artifacts, your dining experience will be accented by French Limoge china and dinner service, replicated from the originals of Houmas House.

For interactive culinary experiences, visit the Viking Cooking School, Tony’s Seafood Market or Kleinpeter Dairy Farm. The Viking Cooking School is located on the pool deck at the Hilton Capitol Center. The

Viking School pairs a beautiful view of the Mississippi River with cooking classes for all cooking levels to create an exciting culinary experience! Tony’s Seafood in north Baton Rouge is the largest Gulf Coast seafood market. Select your favorite catfish from the live catfish tank and take home your select fillets. Do not forget to try the Cajun boudin balls and maybe even take a few home to those who missed out. Tony’s Seafood also produces a collection of seafood cooking accessories known as Louisiana Fish Fry products. Visitors can tour the production facility and discover the secrets behind the famous seasoning blends and red hot sauces.

 


Next, tour Kleinpeter Dairy Farm, locally owned and operated in Montpelier, Louisiana Monday- Friday 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. to get a glimpse of how farmer’s process milk and dairy products, including their popular ice cream! Kleinpeter also offer tours of its processing and packaging facility in Baton Rouge on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m.


Baton Rouge is proud to support our local farmers and we invite you to join our community at the Red Stick Farmers Market. Held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, the Red Stick Farmers Market provides you with the unique opportunity to visit with local farmers and learn more about the quality products they produce. The Market also offers, cooking demonstrations highlighting products from local farmers showcases the variety of Louisiana cooking. From ripe red tomatoes to Louisiana Strawberries and even fresh out of the oven homemade breads, a trip to the Red Stick Farmers Market will enlighten your dining experience.
