Great city! I'm so glad that MSERA chose BR!

J. Shepherd from David KY       Nov 09, 2009

I was there chaperoning a class trip (our senior class chose to travel south this year) and we decided to visit your city. It was just wonderful! Our first stop was at the Old State Capital. The ladies there went out of their way to help us. It was like talking to family. They suggested we visit the LASM across the street and it was wonderful as well, and just as helpful. The volunteers at LASM were so friendly and helpful as well. We then went to Bluebonnet Nature Center, and found them to be wonderfully friendly as well. I don't know if you have a tourism slogan already, but if you don't, let me suggest "Baton Rouge: Absolute Hospitality" or "Baton Rouge. It's like coming home." Both are so very true! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

A new study comparing self-described pleasant feelings with objective measures of good living found these folks generally have reason to feel fine.

Gainesville vs. Baton Rouge: Who gets the nod for having the better hometown, Florida or Louisiana State?

ESPN Online, October 7, 2009, Robert Reid

College football's last two champions (LSU and Florida) aim to settle who's best in 2009 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday. But which has the better hometown? Both Baton Rouge and Gainesville are situated in flat, swampy gator-filled locations, sometimes overlooked for nearby neighbors (New Orleans and Orlando). Baton Rouge (home to "College GameDay" this weekend) has more history -- with its Mississippi River port and state capitols (plural intended) -- while Gainesville does a better job of cooling off locals with its cool natural springs tube trips. Both have more going on than some would expect.

Battle Los Angeles

 BATTLE: La.

225 Magazine, October 2009, Jeff Roedel

This month Celtic hosts the cast and crew of Battle: Los Angeles, a sci-fi action film from Columbia Pictures that stars Aaron Eckhart as a Marine leading the human resistance against an alien invasion. Battle is the first big-budget studio film that Celtic has attracted to its new campus. As such, the movie is both a bittersweet success for O’Connor’s son, Michael—who stepped in to oversee the facility after his father died last year—and instant validation of the state legislature’s decision last session to increase tax credits for film production from 25% to 30% and to make the incentives permanent.

Michigan Women Travel South to Hit Boutiques of Baton Rouge

The Advocate, May 17, 2009, Karen Martin

While some women might venture across town for a good sale, this group traveled more than 1,000 miles to take advantage of great shopping at the boutiques and malls of Baton Rouge and the surrounding area.

Why, you might ask?

“Baton Rouge has incredible boutiques,” said Amy Kogler Langeler, the ringleader of this merry band of hardcore shoppers. “You can find things here that you won’t find anywhere else.”

From New Orleans to Baton Rouge: The Good Times Keep Rollin'!

Rocknworld.com, Jan. 2009, Keith Wierzbicki

Baton Rouge is only about eighty miles from New Orleans and a day trip there will further sate the appetite of those hungry for Louisiana music and food.

A must-see is the Louisiana State Museum (660 N. 4th St.) The state-of-the-art museum has four floors of displays broken into categories like "Louisiana Purchase," "The Mississippi River," "Slavery," "Civil Rights," "Mardi Gras" and "Natural Abundance."
